Founded in 1874 the British Beekeepers' Association (BBKA) runs as an umbrella to our 73 Associations and supports around 30,000 beekeepers. 

The charitable object of the BBKA is:

'to advance the education of the public and beekeepers in the craft of beekeeping and promote the importance of bees in the environment.'

Education is at the heart of our activities.  We run a wide range of educational programmes, lectures and workshops and are committed to the importance of beekeeping for the benefit of all.  We support our Associations to offer training and educational materials to produce better beekeepers and healthy bees as well as educating the general public, including schools and community groups, about:

• the importance of bees as pollinators
• what to do if you have a swarm of honey bees
• planting for pollinators
• threats to honey bees and all pollinators

We sit on Defra boards to represent the needs of beekeepers and honey bees to make sure they are top of the Government agenda in environmental capacities:
