Microscopy - Intermediate Course - Stoneleigh, Warwickshire - Two Days - 7th & 8th February 2026

This is a two day Microscopy Course for BBKA members only.  

This course is for intermediates who have previously attended a Microscopy beginners course at Stoneleigh or any other introductory course. You will need to provide proof of this before your place is confirmed. 

The course is designed for members who are preparing for the BBKA Microscopy Assessment in September 2026.

The areas that will be covered are Disease Diagnosis Acarine and Nosema, Pollen Slide Preparation, Abdominal Dissection, Alimentary System and Central Nervous System, Sting, Heart and Anatomical Slides.

You will need to provide your own equipment as follows:

Dissecting microscope

x20 magnification is sufficient

Compound microscope

up to x400 magnification

Warming plate

A sample of at least 100 bees                                                        

Stage micrometre

A few Pollen loads

Eyepiece graticule

 

Microscopy tool kit including:

  • Scalpel size 3 handle #11 blade
  • Very fine tweezers
  • Seeker
  • Watch glasses
  • Dress making pins (about 6)
  • Dissecting needle

Microscopy tool kit including:

  • Acarine pin
  • Acarine block
  • Fine scissors/Butterfly scissors
  • Glass rod
  • Wax filled tin to embed bees in
  • Dropper pipettes

Course Date:     Saturday 7th February and Sunday 8th February 2026

Start Time:         0900 hours

Finish Time:       1700 hours

Course Fee:       £175.00 per person 

Maximum number of participants is 16.

You will need to bring your own lunch for both days.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

Accommodation

You will need to source your own accommodation.  There is a hotel on site - the Stoneleigh Lodge Hotel - Telephone Number +44 24 7669 0123 - if you inform them you are with the British Beekeepers Association you will receive a discount.  There are also a couple of Premier Inns nearby in Warwick and Coventry and another suggestion is The Peacock Hotel in Kenilworth.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations in writing will be accepted up to 21 days prior to commencement of the course. After this date, no refund will be given, unless the place can be filled.

BBKA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this course. If this is necessary a full refund of course fees will be given.
