We are delighted to be able to invite schools free of charge to visit the British Beekeepers' Association's fantastic new Apiary Garden and Education Centre to learn, through discovery and creativity, about the importance of honey bees, pollinators, beekeeping and the environment.
A generous legacy from a beekeeper, Jim Hopkins, has enabled us to complete work on the BBKA office building and apiary garden to provide the facilities needed for an educational visitor centre aimed at schools and community groups. This work has been completed and we are now able to invite groups to spend a day with us learning about honeybees and pollinators, their importance to the environment and how this aligns to the National Curriculum. We offer a relaxed, informal learning environment for Key Stage 2 classes where children are encouraged to participate and ask questions to enhance their learning. The highlight of every visit is our 'Meet the Bees' session where children can watch safely from behind a bee-proof mesh in our outdoor cabin as an experienced beekeeper opens a hive to enable them to see the real live honey bees inside!
Our 'Bee Days' aim to bring classes together working as a team - much the same as a colony of honey bees!
It's fun and it's free!
